The climate and orography of Lanzarote make it the perfect destination for sport tourism,  either practicing sports under the sun or participating in a competition. This is the reason why multiple events are organised in the island, related to all types of sports . From watersports such as diving , snorkelling, surf, kayak,sailboats,windsurf,swimming or kitesurf to golf or running, but also the most demanding competitions like Ironman, which consists on 3.86km swimming, 180km cycling and 42,2km running in up to 17 hours. Therefore, many athletes travel to this Canary Island to take part in the competition or to attend as spectators.

It's not long now until the 26th edition of Ironman Lanzarote, which will be held next Saturday 20th May, with 1500 triathletes. This year, the oldest Ironman in Europe will include Arrecife with a circuit all the way up through the seawalk to Charco de San Ginés. A giant screen will be installed there so people can follow the progress of the competition without missing a single detail. 

Whatsmore, at the same time, the first Ironman Lanzarote Fair will be organised with different stands for fans of this sport. This competition is part of the program Lanzarote European Sports Destination which tries to promote the island as an European sports destination.

 

 

Running is another sport which has Lanzarote as a perfect place to practice it, as its climate let's you exercise all year round and enjoy the mesmerizing landscapes that have made Lanzarote famous worldwide. Throughout the year, multiple competitions take place in the island, some with great recognition as the Lanzarote International Marathon, Haría Extreme Lanzarote, Lanzarote Wine Run, International Running Challenge or Disco Night Urban Race, which took place the 6th of May.

 A different race, which is currently on its 5th edition. It takes place in a totally flat circuit which allows runners to enjoy a race with a party-like atmosphere. Each year, more and more tourists book their holidays to take part in this race where you can listen to music and attend to a show on the finish line. A very particular race, aimed at the general public and designed to enjoy with family and friends.
